We hope everyone has enjoyed their two weeks off. It’s certainly rained a lot, so this gives us comfort that we made the right decision about extending the length of the break.
The term ‘break’ we use loosely as we’ve been busy planning Cycle 5 & Cycle 6.
Cycle 6’s four week Adventure Camp is now shaping up very nicely. We’re excited to announce a preliminary outline of what it will look like so you can all plan accordingly.
Firstly, what is a camp without actually sleeping in tents? So, the last week of the camp will be a three night, four day mini expedition, with all the students setting up camps and sleeping in tents. The location is to be confirmed.
The expedition will be the culmination of the previous three weeks of adventure classes, where the students will get hands-on experience putting their skills into practice.
So, what will the students be learning in Cycle 6?
Ideas for potential classes are shaping up as follows and will be confirmed in the coming weeks:
The ABCDs of First Aid, plus practical first aid scenarios.
Understanding Navigation & Maps through Math
Outdoor Teamwork, Math Games & Puzzles
Extreme Biology
Knots and Ropework
Smart Phone Photography
Human Physiology
Understanding Costa Rican Geography
Geographical Awareness
World Warrior Class, with tribal drums
Creating your Tribe Class
Getting to know Costa Rican Animals
English Classes focusing on adventure stories
Spanish Classes, focusing on adventure vocabulary
Plus many Connection Times will be adventure focused
Other classes TBC
Costs and scheduling
Costs
Our goal is to keep the cost of the 4-week camp not too far from normal rates, with additions like transportation and gear added on. The exact price will be released soon, and will likely be affected by where we host the expedition.
Scheduling
The best way to experience the camp will be full time (Option A), 5 days a week, 8am - 2pm. However we recognise that some students may have commitments elsewhere, so, we offer two other packages,
Option B: 3 days per week - Monday - Wednesday - Friday - 8am - 2pm.
Or
Option C: 2 days per week - Wednesday - Friday - 8am - 2pm.
For the Adventure Camp, you will not be able to choose classes Al Carte, as is normal at Jungle Academy. It will be full days only. Also, please consider, we expect this camp to be popular and we will prioritise those enrolled on Option A, over Option B, and Option C after that. This is because we want to maximise the student’s experiences and prepare them thoroughly for the mini-expedition.
Also,
If you are an outdoor type, we still have some places on the Expedition for Adult Guides, which we will pay a daily rate for. Please get in touch if you have experience in this field.
If you have any adventure themed classes you think may be appropriate, then also get in touch asap, so we can brainstorm!
In January the weather is normally fantastic to be outdoors, so it is going to be an exciting, fun-pact month.
