Wow, it's crazy to think that we'll soon be in Cycle 5.
If you're unsure what Cycle 5 means, starting October 24th, we will start the fifth and final 8 week learning cycle for the year 2022.
What comes after Cycle 5? well Cycle 6 of course! The Cycle numbers will not reset at the start of each calendar year, instead they will continue to accrue as Jungle Academy ages. So, for students this system will act as markers in time and space for when they attended.
This post will deal with what's going to happen in Cycle 5 & 6.
Musical Theatre
First and foremost, Cycle 5 will host another theatrical performance. This will be our third show of the year. We hope as many students as possible can sign-up and find their place in what is always an amazing journey. The show will be called, How Soon Is Now? It's another original script written by the Jungle Academy team and incorporates music of the early 1980s. This time we plan two or possibly three performances, which will be a big step up from our usual single performance.
If you'd like to be involved in this show, please let us know.
Offering More Classes
Currently we offer ability-appropriate classes in Math and Spanish. In Cycle 5 we will also begin to offer ability-appropriate classes in English Language and Literature.
On top of this students will get even more choice on their elective class choices. for the first time, both La Choza and the Temple will be running classes simultaneously throughout day.
Closing-off the site to drop-off and pick-up car traffic
In Cycle 5, Jungle Academy will be closed to drop-off and pick up traffic. We will soon extend the main road so that there will be waiting areas for cars. Students will instead walk the driveway to get to and from vehicles.
Why are we doing this? First of all, safety. It has always been our intention to do this. In the future we plan to make an air-bridge from the road to La Choza for all students to enter the premises. However, as the number of students increase, the volume of cars entering the property is now becoming too great and poses safety risks for students and animals.
Secondly, we believe the site which Jungle Academy sits upon is sacred land and it damages its energy to have too many cars driving on it everyday.
The site will still be available for teachers and visitors to park in, but you will need to get permission.
Call out for Guardians
A key part of the Jungle Academy program is to have onsite Guardians, individuals who are present and available to work with the admin and teaching team to provide assistance or guidance to students outside of class time. As we continue to grow we’re now actively looking for people who would like to support as Guardians.
Please let us know if this is something you’d like to do or know someone who would be interested.
Halloween Disco
On Monday 31st October we will have a Halloween, fancy-dress disco for students.
6:00 - 8:00pm
Cycle 6 - Adventure Cycle
Cycle 6 will be a unique four week cycle where we concentrate on outdoor activities and adventure. We will still offer English, Math and Spanish as core subjects but the majority of the electives available will be based around adventure. If you feel like you have the skills to help-out or create content based on the outdoors and adventure, please get in touch with Richard.
